A teleprompter that listens to you talk and follows along. Speed up, it speeds up. Wander off script, it waits for you. No account, no monthly fee, and nothing you write ever leaves your computer.
Every teleprompter worth using wanted a subscription, billed a year up front. The free versions cut you off after two minutes, right when the thing finally becomes useful. So I built my own in one sitting and I'm giving it away. Take it.
Use it straight in your browser, or grab the file and keep a copy forever. Same tool either way.
Click and it opens. Nothing to install, nothing to unzip. This is the version where voice tracking works, because browsers only allow microphone access on a real web page. Bookmark it and you're done.
A zip with the whole thing inside, one HTML file. Unzip it, double-click it, it opens in your browser. Works with no internet. Voice tracking needs the hosted version, but the scrolling, mirroring, and controls all work offline.
That's genuinely it. Takes about thirty seconds the first time.
Drop it in the big box. It saves to your own browser automatically, so it's still there tomorrow. Give it a name if you want to keep more than one.
Full screen, big text. Space bar starts and stops it. Arrow keys speed it up or slow it down while it's rolling.
Press V, allow the mic, then just read. Watch the top right corner. Once it says tracking, it's locked onto you. Words you've already said go dim, and the word it thinks you're on turns blue.
Press P and the prompter jumps into a small floating window that sits on top of everything, including your recording software. Drag it right under your lens so your eyeline stays put.
Ramble. Add something. It eases to a stop and waits instead of running off without you, then picks you up the second you get back to the script. That's the part that took the longest to get right.
They save in your own browser. I don't have an account system, I don't have a database, and I never see a word of what you write. If you clear your browser data, they're gone, so keep anything important in your own notes too.
One honest note on voice tracking: Chrome does the listening using its own built-in speech engine, which sends the audio to Google to turn into text. That's Chrome, not me, and it never passes through my site. If you'd rather not, leave voice off and use the speed controls. Everything else still works.
Voice tracking needs Chrome or Edge. Safari and Firefox will scroll fine, they just can't do the listening part yet.
On a phone: drag the text with your finger to move around, and tap once to start or stop the scroll. And if you're filming with the same phone you're reading from, your camera takes the microphone. Phones only hand the mic to one app at a time, so voice tracking can't run at the same time as your camera app. When that happens the prompter notices and keeps scrolling at the pace it already learned from you, so you're not left staring at a frozen screen. Filming on one device and reading off another is the smoother way to do it.
